Georgia State baseball is on tremendously solid footing as the Panthers closed the 2013 season with another 35 win season and recruiting is as impressive the last few cycles as it has ever been for the program. With the College World Series set to start this weekend, we decided to talk a little Georgia State baseball with two of those impressive prospects out of Gwinnett County in Parkview HS OF Ryan Blanton and Loganville HS SS David Mayo. Between them they have three state titles between them and are craving more. The pair discuss what their summer plans are, playing with each other and what they want to bring to Georgia State.

PantherTalk.com: How did Georgia State come on the radar for you?
Ryan Blanton: Coach Frady first saw me in a tournament in Pensacola. Coach Stewart talked to me at the Top 100 event and my high school coach put them on my radar.
David Mayo: In 2012 we won the state title and [current Panther] Garret Ford was pitching. Coach Stewart came to watch him and told me that they were interested. Coach Frady invited me on an unofficial visit and we went to a basketball game vs. East Carolina and we lost. I committed the next day. They just made an offers that I could not refuse.
PantherTalk.com: Did you know much about the program?
RB: I knew they were D1 but I did not follow them closely.
DM: Not a ton. I didn't realize how good they had been for the last few years.
PantherTalk.com: What are your summer plans right now?
RB: I'm mainly working out on my own. I want to hit the gym hard and get ready to report in August.

DM: I've been invited to an All-Star event with the top Seniors in the state. I may play with Team Georgia in Oklahoma to give it one more time with my boys. I need to get some reps in. After that, I'm hoping to take some vacation time as this is probably the first summer in a while that I've not been playing every week.
PantherTalk.com: Beyond the scouting report, what can fans expect out of you at Georgia State?
RB: I just play as hard as I can. I just work and want people to see my work ethic.
DM: I compete harder than anyone you've ever seen. I just want to win. I'll probably be the loudest one out there. I'm pretty vocal and just hustle everywhere. I want to pick guys up on the field and off the field.
PantherTalk.com: You guys come from the same area, how well did you know each other and how often did you guys talk once you made your decisions?
RB: We played travel ball against each other and I definitely knew him growing up.
DM: Oh yeah, we talked about it. We just want to get there and win.
PantherTalk.com: What will it be like to team up together and what are your goals at Georgia State?
RB: We absolutely want to win championships. We both fell short in the [high school] playoffs. We are so accustomed to winning titles and we want to win a title at Georgia State.
DM: I want to go to the College World Series really badly. I want to do everything I can compete to win. I know the Sun Belt will be tough and I want to help in any way I can.
Special thanks to Ryan Blanton and David Mayo for joining us!
